European Game Showcase at GDC 2020 FAQ

The event provides the opportunity for publishers, press and partners to exclusively scout the newest productions from Europe and mix and mingle in a personal atmosphere with selected attendees.

Who is organizing this?
The main organization team of the event is (in alphabetical order) Dajana Dimovska, Eva Gaspar, Tobias Kopka and Alessandra van Otterlo. The European Game Showcase receives support from a wide range of people and organisations across Europe including Jakub Marszałkowski, Micaela Romanini and Simon Barratt
Why are we organizing this?
This initiative spawned as an idea of four individuals with a developer and events organizer background who wanted to help European developers getting better visibility and contacts to press, publishers and strategic partners at GDC. This event is an initiative of us as individuals but we are highly open to extend the reach and scope regarding more organizers and supporters from more participating countries (as for example from the UK).

You can submit all kind of games for all kind of platforms, as long as the game is not yet released before GDC 2020.
How can I submit my game
You can submit your game via the online form. You can find the details and the link to the form on the European Game Showcase homepage.
From which countries do you show games this year
In the future we hope to get more people and more regions involved (see also under “Why is my country not included), but for the third edition the selection will consist of games developed in Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Ukraine, United Kingdom.
Why is my country not included?
The European Game Showcase is a non-profit organisation, so when expanding on countries, we need local help. If you know someone from your country/region who would be willing to help us in distributing the open call, curate the games for the region, and help us to find sponsors to cover cost? Please let them contact us via email@example.com
Do I have to be present during the event?
Yes, you need to be present during the event hours (see top of this FAQ). For further information on team size etc, please see below in the ‘The event’ section of the FAQ.
What are the cost?
Signing up for the Open call has no fee, but when you are selected we ask you to help cover a small part of the cost: €100 (ex VAT) per game. Please note that you have to pay your own trip to GDC and any other additional costs.
All selected developers will get a free MeetToMatch GDC account (value of around €90). They can use the MeetToMatch system to plan meetings during the entire GDC week.
The EGS is hosted by Swissnex San Francisco (Pier 17, The Embarcadero #800, San Francisco)
What do we have to do to prepare for the EGS?
When you arrive there will be a table for you to showcase on, but you need to bring your own hardware, monitors etc. to showcase your game. Please make sure you arrive 1 hour prior to the event, to make sure everything everything is running smoothly when the event starts.
How many team members can we bring?
You can bring max 2 team members. This will allow you to showcase your game in the best possible way, without getting too crowded.
Can we leave our equipment at the site or do we have to dismantle after the EGS?
You can’t leave anything at the venue, so you need to take everything with you after the event is over.
When can I start set up?
Exact information on this will be announced at a later date, but set up will probably start around 14:00h.
Do we have space for a banner or something similar?
You’ll have space for one roll-up banner.
Will there be some dedicated space for VR?
Yes, we do have space to show VR games as well.
Do we need a special insurance?
We are not responsible for any damages of losses to any of your belongings, so please make sure you are insured.
Who gets invited to the EGS?
All organisers have an extensive network in the international games industry and they will use this network to invite people to this event.
